We have an ongoing relationship with Graeme Horncastle from The Pavillions hotel in Christchurch as he turns stories from his family history into life-sized displays.
As well as running a successful hotel and bar, Graeme is also a writer whose books chronical his family history on the west coast. He has collected many of the original cars and equipment to display. We were commissioned to replicate the faces of his family members.
The process starts with old photos that we work from to build up an exact likeness. This sculpture is then molded in rubber and cast in plastic. The resulting piece is then hand painted and details like acrylic eyes and human hair added.
We also make the hands then Graeme takes over building bodies and adding clothing and props
If you are ever passing The Pavillions on Papanui road, pop in and check out this unique experience and say gidday to the Horncastles.
We will be in Wellington over Easter at Armageddon pulp expo so come visit if you are at the cake-tin on Saturday. Look for this dwarf.
